This is a futuristic goal of the IEC - any development will be communicated at the appropriate time
BSO training is specific to local Plant needs
Auditing will include audits of the components of the BSO process, including the Challenge Tests... these will be spot audits done by the client owners. The audit process only looks at the gaps of who has completed the challenge tests and who has not. As far as feedback on the 8-hour BSO Plus, there are hand-outs at the end of each training class that invite feedback.
As of September 1st 2010 the BSO SME Team has renamed the 'Challenge Test' to a 'Safety
Refresher'
They are not required but some of the plants are putting new hires through the program. The plants have extended in-house training for their employees that covers more than the 8-hour BSO Plus
If BSO Plus is a requirement to get on-site to the plant(s), then completion of the Challenge Tests are also required
Nearly 5000 have been trained to-date in BSO Plus. With recent changes, the IEC is able to accommodate 1-day service
with up to 3 classes per day. Instructors are available to do “after hours” training
Yes, the BSO SME Team has considered this and has decided at this time to have everyone take the same 8-hour course (unless exempted by a specific Plant)
Out-of-town workers should be handled the same as in-town workers. The process is set up to be the same for anyone
The BSO Plus was designed by Plants to their safety standards - not in response to the MOL
If required to take BSO Plus, then the Safety Topics and Challenge Tests are required as well
Should not be different than any other job costs
There are equivalencies for the Fall Protection Standards with the IEC and CSAO delivered training
The monthly safety topics were designed to be delivered in approximately 10 minutes at regular safety meetings
This comment is duly noted

Try to get the information ahead of time and see how you will logistically need to resource it – you do not need a Health & Safety rep. but rather someone to administer the test & answers. Challenge Tests have taken an average of 20 minutes to complete
Good planning
No – because there should be no travel time associated. Also, these topics and challenge tests can be done at regularly scheduled safety meetings

A pilot of the accredited trainer is currently underway and the process is being finalized. Once this process is complete it will be posted on the IEC website
The IEC and CSAO are recognized until July 1, 2011 until which date, all training will be on the new Fall Protection Standard.
SME Team willing to look at other programs to see if they meet standard

Website and Records Management - Questions Previously Answered
Certain Trades are using this feature already
The IEC can assign workers to “no company specified”, however it does not delete past training history
You can use the Excel export to sort the records by topic first, then by date
The IEC has developed a new piece to the database that will allow the unions to see these records. The IEC has offered to work with the unions individually to set this up per union
SMA paid for, access to database, access to newsletters
It is the ownership of the contractor to keep a copy of the completed tests, not the IEC
At this point, those companies that do not have access to the database can fax or email attendance sheets to the IEC for record entry – all other’s are to submit their own records via the database.
We are currently looking into a process where non-members can do this record upload.
We are adding this log-in feature for non-member companies to be able to
upload records. We will let you know as soon as this takes effect.
We have upgraded the database to be able to import a spreadsheet of records directly to the database
and this should be fully functional by September 6th, 2010.
You would have to contact your Internet Service
provider if the website is too slow. If you are asking why the process of
booking a person for training is slow, we are working on having the status
of classes show up prior to booking. NOTE: This new and improved class
status feature has been added to the functionality of the website as of
September 1st 2010.
As of September 3rd 2010, the requirements for
passwords to access these Six Month Safety Refreshers has been dropped.

Six Month Challenge Tests (Now called Six Month Safety Refresher)- FAQ
You can obtain the questions and answers from our website
You can take the Safety Refresher at your work site, union hall, company location, IEC (fee), etc
To maintain safety in the workplace and to reduce the number of visits to the IEC for recertification, companies can administer a 6 month challenge test and remediate to 100% the knowledge of safe work habits. This will also help keep the content refreshed over the 3 year renewal period of BSO Plus
If you are working onsite at a client member location and have missed a challenge test, the client will audit you to see if you are compliant with your challenge tests. If you are not compliant, you will not be allowed onto the work site
Q: What if I miss a Six Month Safety Refresher because I have been working out of town for 6 months?
If you have not been working in the valley for 6 months and have missed a challenge test, before going to work on a client member site, you must complete the most recent challenge test
The challenge tests should take no more than 30 minutes to complete
All challenge tests will be remediated to 100% by your test administrator
Because the contracting companies are administering the challenge tests, the challenge tests will only be printed on your IEC card if you come in for training and need your card updated
Yes, anyone that has taken the old Basic will be required to take the challenge tests
Questions will consist of content from the BSO Plus material covered in the course
Q: How will the Six Month Safety Refresher record go into the database if we are taking them at our company location?
If you have access to the database you will be required to enter in your own records (see website for link of process on entering records). If you do not have access to the database, you may submit your attendance sheets to the IEC via fax at 519-383-1305 or email at info@sarniasafety.com
As of September 3, 2010, you will not need a
password to access the Questions or the Answers.
