Morning Session: |
This interactive 8-hour safety awareness program is required to work on IEC member-client sites. The session is split into segments. Testing takes place throughout the day. All tests are remediated to 100% to ensure workers leave the program with the correct information. BSO Plus is renewable every three years. The program is reinforced via monthly safety meeting topics that focus on topics from BSO Plus. These topics will be available from this website. 2010: Six-Month Challenge Tests are taken in Jun & Sept (NOTE: In September the Six Month Challenge Test will be renamed to Six Month Safety Refresher) 2011: Six Month Safety Refresher's are taken in March & September |
Afternoon Session |
| Morning session addresses worker rights, responsibilities and hazard identification. Specific hazards covered at an awareness level include: a) Asbestos & Refractory Ceramic Fibres (RCF) b) H2S c) Benzene, silica, lead, mercury, radiation, nitrogen d) Thermal extremes e) Slips, trips and falls f) Driving hazards g) Confined space |
Afternoon session looks at elimination, control, and mitigation of hazards. An interactive team building exercise shows workers the importance of following instructions, what happens when you are rushed, requesting assistance etc.
Other afternoon topics are: a) PPE b) Safe Work Permits (including energy isolation & electrical lockout/tagout) c) Housekeeping d) Signs, barricades and taping e) Poor body positioning f) WHMIS (short review) g) Safety communication tools (including safety meetings, tool-box-talks, Observation Based Safety and TASC cards) |

| Respirator Fit Testing Must be clean shaven below top lip, if in doubt, please view our Facial Hair Policy. We will be charging $3 to supply a razor + foam. If using supplied air, please indicate whether it is Scott or Draeger equipment, SCBA or SABA on your registration form. Also indicating either full or half mask and type (North, 3M, supplied-air etc). If you bring your own respirator, there will be a 10% discount on the price of the fit-test. The IEC now sells North full and north half mask respirators as well as Nomex carrying bags, leather belts and organic vapour and P100 cartridges. |
