The Safety Training Standards (STS) for Asbestos Awareness and Fall Protection (including Gap Analysis Appendices) are now ready for review by all stakeholders, the first step on the path to approval/recommendation by the IEC Executive.

These standards will be the foundation for the development of standardized Accredited Safety Training Courses for Fall Protection and Asbestos Awareness, designed to ensure adequacy and consistency of training in these areas.

 The Asbestos Awareness and Fall Protection Subject Matter Expert (SME) Teams are to be congratulated and commended for their hard work, outstanding efforts, and dedicated time to produce the Standards.

The review period has been extended until June 30/09.  Once the review period has ended, the SME teams will make any suggested changes/revisions to the Standards.  The Audit Team will review these and then forward the Standards to the STS Steering Committee.

What should people do with the Standards?

• Review them
• Provide feedback/comments
• Comments/feedback/suggestions for change are welcome and should be forwarded by e-mail to the Chairs of the respective Subject Matter Expert Teams by the timeline indicated. (May 21st to June 4th)
